Common Uses – Shati is used in the treatment of respiratory disorders, fevers, and as a tranquilizer, hypotensive, antispasmodic, CNS depressant, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal, pediculicidal, and cytotoxic. The rootstalk is useful to treat local inflammations, nausea, asthma, bronchitis, dyspepsia, hiccups, chest heaviness, sleeplessness, loss of appetite and pulmonary eosinophilia, and pain. The rhizome of the plant is said to be carminative, stimulant and tonic. The rhizomes are also used in diarrhea, piles, liver complaints, ulcers, skin diseases, and rheumatoid arthritis. The essential oil of the rhizome is used to check seed-borne diseases of crops and has mild tranquilizing activity. It has been described as useful especially as an anti-asthmatic agent. It counteracts had mouth taste and smell.

Indications – It is used internally in vomiting, pain, diarrhea, cough, dyspnoea, hiccup, and fever. It is used externally as a paste in wounds, oedema, and inflammatory joints;  for brushing and gargling in dental disorders; for fumigation in asthma.
