Diwali is the festival of lights. There are a lot myths and stories related to Diwali. The mythical story related to Diwali may vary from regionally. The word Diwali or Deepavali means the festival with lights. Every year this festival is celebrating by the people around the world especially in India, as it is concerned with some Indian classical stories.

This festival is celebrated by the Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, & Buddhists people in different name. It is a cultural and religious festival. Diwali starts with Dhanteras, which is known as the Dhanwantari Trayodasha. Lord Dhanwantari is considered as the originator of Ayurveda and is born on this day and the same day Lord Lakshmi came out of the ocean along with Lord Kuber. Thus it is associated with health and wealth. Diwali ends with Bhai Dooj.

In honour of the return of Lord Rama and Lord Sita, after the long 14 years vanavasa and the Rama-Ravan war and the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana the people of Ayodhya light lamps to enlighten their path and to emphasize the victory of Good over evil, light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance and hope over despair.

It is celebrated every year in the autumn season, by lamping millions of lights everywhere in the house, premises, buildings, doors, windows, around the temples and other buildings. Before Diwali, people clean and decorate their home with lights and decorations and do some rituals in the home. After pooja, fireworks follow then the great family feast including a number of varieties of sweets. Exchange of gifts between friends and family.

Diwali have some similarity with the principles of the ancient Indian life science – Ayurveda.

Every year in the autumn season it is celebrated. According to Ayurveda autumn season considered to the season in pitta dosha is in its aggravated state.

The digestive fire is more in this season, if one should not take enough food at this time the increased Agni starts to eat the body tissues. To prevent this one should take proper food to pacify the Agni.

During Diwali season people used to take sweets, the sweet taste have ability reduce the pitta. This may be the logic of giving sweets during this festival, considering the climate, place, strength and power of the individual. This shows the connection of diwali with the life science Ayurveda.
